Pre-season Testing and the Physical Profiling of Players

Testing of players prior to participating in rugby has become a very necessary and important part of injury prevention initiatives around the world and in all sports.

In rugby union, this is especially important in ensuring that players are adequately prepared physically for the game, and suitably conditioned, developed and matched for their position and age-group specific level.

BokSmart has provided coaches with a basic rugby fitness testing battery to assess players’ physical readiness for participating in rugby. The test battery is simple and easy to use, requiring minimal equipment. It also provides normative data to allow coaches to compare players against age-group norms, ranging from U12 age group level to senior level, and for all positions.

This aims to prevent coaches from putting ‘at risk’ players onto the field in positions, where they are not suitably developed or conditioned for their positions and age appropriate levels of play.
