The Jaguares XV continued to show their class in the competition - – sponsored by DirectAxis Financial Services – as they earned their fourth bonus-point win in a row thanks to seven tries to two by the Eastern Province Elephants for a 54-15 victory in Port Elizabeth. The Argentineans showed their intent in the first 40 minutes, building up a 26-10 halftime lead, and they continued to create chances and capitalise on them, which pushed them past the 50-point mark.
Jaguares XV scrumhalf Gonzalo Bertranou touched down twice, while his halfback partner, Domingo Miotti made a valuable contribution of a try and six conversions for a personal tally of 17 points.
The Boland Cavaliers dominated their clash against the SWD Eagles from the outset and this paid off with a comprehensive 32-3 victory in George.
Boland winger Warren Williams scored two of his team’s four tries while flyhalf Garrick Mattheus had a good day with the boot, slotting over three conversions and two penalty goals. The Winelands outfit backed up their effective attack with a solid defensive effort, which limited the hosts to a penalty goal for their efforts.
The Leopards built on a 19-12 halftime lead against Border in Potchefstroom to secure a 38-29 victory. Six players crossed the tryline for the hosts, while the East London outfit could only break through the defence four times. Border flyhalf Aphiwe Stemele tried hard to keep the scoreboard ticking with three conversions and a penalty goal, but this was not enough.
The Valke bounced back from a slow first half in which they trailed 17-7 to secure a 31-31 draw against the Down Touch Griffons in Brakpan. Both sides scored four tries – each by different players – but the four conversions and penalty goal each by Down Touch Griffons centre Danrich Visagie and Valke scrumhalf Anrich Richter, saw the teams level the scores.
