Born on 28 March 1962, Dean was regarded as one of the best and toughest players of his generation from the Belhar and Elsies River areas of Cape Town.

Playing mostly at No 8, Dean displayed brilliant rugby skills at a very young age. After finishing school, he joined Belhar RFC and he was later selected to represent the erstwhile Tygerberg RFU and the City & Suburban Rugby Football Union.

From Tygerberg, Dean was rewarded with selection for the South African Rugby Union (SARU) side in 1986, gaining national colours.

“It’s a sad day when a member of the rugby family passes away and our thoughts are with Terence’s family, friends and loved ones at this time of bereavement,” said Mr Alexander.

“Terence was known as an uncompromising loose forward in his playing days, but after he hung up his boots, he continued to plough back into the game by coaching young players at the Bishop Lavis RFC.

“He was also a superb cricketer and even though he did not get the recognition he deserved in his playing days, we can honour him for a life devoted to our game and played at the highest level. He knew he had an important role to play by giving back to disadvantaged youngsters in his community and he never shied away from doing just that.”
