It was quite a surprise when Danelle Lochner, a former national netball player, opted to instead pursue a career rugby after playing for the Proteas. She made her Springbok Women debut against Canada in Madrid in 2023, brings a high-performance mindset to any team and is a keen student of rugby and how to implement the fundamentals into her own game. Her physicality compliments the South African pack, and she plays an important role in setting up powerful driving mauls.
