Maceala Samboya started playing rugby in 2023 and incredibly made her Test debut later the same year, scoring a try on debut against Samoa in Hermanus. She was spotted playing touch rugby and then invited to try out sevens rugby, and from there was selected for the Sanlam Boland Dames provincial team. The speedy Samboya, who was a member of the Women’s RWC squad in 2025 and does community work in her spare time, made her national sevens debut in 2026.
