Nomsa Mokwai transitioned from netball to rugby early in her student days at North West University in her hometown of Potchefstroom and had to juggle the demands of both on her time, but rugby had the inside lane as she became one of the first professional players in South Africa in 2016, when the players in the Springbok Women’s Sevens squad were contracted with SA Rugby. A full-time professional emergency room nurse, Mokwai’s athleticism makes her a valuable lineout asset, but it is also her ability to get around the field and do the dirty work that endears her to coaches.
