The home team dominated the entire first half as they kept the Welkom men scoreless while scoring three converted tries themselves.
It took just one minute for the Johannesburg based outfit to draw first blood as hooker Pieter Jansen crossed the chalk. His efforts were followed by former Scotland U20 prop Nathan Mcbeth scoring a five pointer while Jansen got his second on the stroke of half-time.
Fullback Ruan Combrinck converted all three tries to hand his charges a strong 21-0 lead at the break.
The Xerox Golden Lions XV picked up things as they left them before the break as flank James Venter scored six minutes after the match resumed while replacement utility back Tyreeq February scored ten minutes later. Combrinck converted both tries.
The scoreboard may have been against them but this did not dampen the visitors' attacking intent as they scored three tries in the last twenty minutes courtesy of lock Nkosi Nofuma, fullback Dominec Smit and wing Allistair Mumba.
However their comeback was short lived as wing Jan-Louis la Grange scored in the 80th minute with Combrinck's conversion ensuring that the Xerox Golden Lions XV finished as strongly as they started and walked away 42-15 victors.
