The Elephants' fullback, Mike Botha, opened the scoring in the eighth minute after a superb run by right wing Mike Makase. Oliver Zono kicked the conversion from the corner and the home team never looked back after that.
Eight minutes later, prop Luvuyo Pupuma crashed over from a lineout drive to make it 12-0 and in the 25th minutete left wing, Athi Mayinje, broke beautifully through midfield and laid off to scrumhalf Richmond Gora who scored under the posts. Zono added the extra two points from the tee.
With EP now rampant on attack Gora got his second, with Zono adding another conversion to lead 26-0.
SWD eventually got off the mark in the 37th minute when fullback Ganfried May scored in the corner. Flyhalf Gerhard Nortier converted, but again EP rallied. Flanker Rynardt van Wyk scored from loose play on the hooter and Zono converted for a very comfortable lead.
The Eagles were first to score early in the second half with scrumhalf Dillin Snel running all of 50 metres to touch down. The home side hit straight back with a try in the corner by hooker Mhlali Mpafi and another by Zono, much to the delight of the crowd.
Trailing 45-12, SWD showed good character with their fightback. First centre Vuyo Mboto scored, followed by a brace from fellow midfielder, Marquit September. The comeback was in vain though and tries by Diego Williams and Meli Rokoua closed the game off for the home team.
