The South Africans outplayed Georgia (27-0), Norway (35-0) and Poland (7-5) to top Pool C and maintain their winning streak in France. Earlier in the week, the team won all six their matches en route to be crowned Centrale Sevens champions in Paris.

However, if they want to return home with another title, they need to step it up on Sunday, said Springbok Women's Sevens coach, Paul Delport, who added that the tough conditions made the surface and ball slippery.

"That was a factor, but we also did not play as well as we could, especially in our opening match against Georgia, where we just could not get going," Delport said.

"In our second match against Norway, it was much better and we played some very nice rugby."

Delport made some positional changes to the team for the Poland match and that had an impact on their performance.

"I tried something different, moving Nadine Roos from wing to hooker,” Delport said. 

“I was trying to have four playmakers on the field at one time and it did not quite work out the way I wanted, especially with the weather conditions being what it was."

Delport said Poland played well in the tight victory, but he asked for more fluency from his side.

"According to the weather forecast, it will be sunny on Sunday,” he said.

“We will be able to play our free flowing game that everyone is comfortable with, so we will approach day two with some confidence.”

Unfortunately the team will be without Kelly van der Berg, who was ruled out with concussion, and Christelene Steinhobel, who has flu.

Rights Mkhari, who did not play on Saturday due to a high workload at the Centrale Sevens, will be back in action on Sunday.
